Over the last few decades, weddings have assumed a greater role in the uniting of a couple. These are no longer small affairs with only intimate friends and family. Extended family and close friends from both the bride and groom's side are now included in the special day. Modern weddings are no longer haphazard. They are carefully planned and orchestrated events with many vendors participating to enhance the occasion.
Whether there are only twenty guests or several hundred, celebrating a wedding is now an event that may take place over several days. There are now parties before the event such as the bachelor party for the groom and a hen's party or bridal shower for the bride. Some couples plan to have special dinners with close family or friends. These events are orchestrated to highlight the upcoming wedding, but many are also planned as a special time to have fun before that event takes place.
